Reciprocity in Action!

At Luz Sagrada, we honor and respect the deep cultural and spiritual heritage of the Shipibo and other Indigenous Peruvian peoples, whose traditions guide our ceremonies. We are committed to Indigenous reciprocity, ensuring that our practices not only respect but also support the communities from which these sacred traditions originate. Through direct partnerships, fair compensation, and ongoing contributions, we strive to give back to the Indigenous stewards of this wisdom and tradition, fostering a relationship of mutual respect and sustainability.

Volunteer-Driven Mission

In alignment with our values, no one except the Indigenous communities directly associated with our church profits from our ceremonies. All labor at our church is carried out by dedicated volunteers who share a commitment to this sacred work. Our model is rooted in service, ensuring that our efforts remain focused on spiritual growth, community well-being, and the respectful preservation of Indigenous traditions.

Supporting Indigenous Artisans

As part of our commitment, we purchase handmade gifts crafted by Indigenous women, which we then resell at cost. This practice ensures that the artisans receive fair compensation for their work, while our community members have the opportunity to connect with original, meaningful pieces that carry the spirit and culture of the Shipibo and other Indigenous people.

La Chocalatada Festivals for Peruvian Children

For the second year, Luz Sagrada is sponsoring the much-anticipated La Chocolatada celebrations in several Peruvian villages, honoring a cherished tradition that brings holiday cheer to rural communities. With our support, village elders distribute sweet bread (often panetón), toys, and large pots of hot chocolate to children. This event embodies the true spirit of reciprocity—bringing joy, love, and a sense of belonging to these often-overlooked communities.

Supporting Elders

Our community has consistently worked to support Indigenous elders by raising funds for various critical needs. Over the years, we have provided life-saving medical care, provided food, offered no-interest loans, and given direct financial assistance to those who need it. This ongoing commitment reflects our deep respect and care for the elders, ensuring they receive the support they need to live with dignity and security.

Reciprocity at Home–The Incarceration Recovery Project

Luz Sagrada also hosts the Incarceration Recovery Project (IRP), an initiative designed to help those who have experienced the trauma of incarceration, which often leads to PTSD. Recognizing the healing potential of ayahuasca, studies have shown that it can be effective in treating PTSD and other forms of trauma. Through the IRP, we offer donation-free ceremonies to the formerly incarcerated as they work to recover from their experiences. This project is our way of giving back, providing a form of reciprocity for those who have been victimized within the U.S. justice system.
